First post, so be extra gentle :) Also, I don't see the image in the preview, so I don't know if I did something wrong; I used the insert image button and included the full url of the photo (which, btw, is http://www.pbase.com/lorenbc/image/127064460), but, as I said, it's not showing up in the preview :( EDIT: It's not showing in the post, either, so maybe someone can advise me as to what I've done wrong.
Caught this osprey (we have several nests within a few hundred feet of our house) headed back to the nest with goodies for the kiddies. This is one of a series.
Equipment: Canon EOS 7D, EF 100-400
Settings: 1/1250s f/8.0 at 400.0mm iso400 EC +1, RAW
PP includes crop, levels, a bit of shadows/highlights, sharpening
Sometimes I think I have a tendency to overprocess; comments appreciated.

Hi Loren Just had to add .jpg at the end so it would work !!!
Good capture having a fish is a bonus !!! Did well on the exp comp, plus one sounds about right Would de saturate the blue sky just a bit !! For these type using the cameras high rate of firing makes all the difference, would like seeing a slightly different wing position ... this is close and not bad !! .. crop wise would take some from the bottom, bird is going straight ahead and no need for the extra below !!! Big Warm Welcome and looking forward to the next one !!!
Hi - Big warm welcome to BPN.
Nice first post - AL has covered most of the main points very nicely - like the use of the F8 - nothing in BG to worry about and had the SS to support it.
Looking forward to seeing more :)
Hi Loren,I also welcome you to BPN.
Nice first post with good comments given. Wondering if the image has a slight magenta cast? Agree about the crop on the bottom and some desat of the sky...
Al, thanks for letting me know about the .jpg; I must have missed that in the posting instructions.
I get it about the bottom crop; I was trying to have the bird generally in the upper right, but bringing it down a bit makes sense. Not sure about the magenta cast; I did set WB during PP (I shoot RAW, and used As Shot for PP), and, frankly, I don't see it on my monitor; maybe it's time for another calibration.
As for the wing position, I thought this was kinda unique; I have tons with the wings up, down, etc, but this one made me look again :)
Loren the slight cast seems to be in the sky, for most skies if you desaturate a bit will make it look better ... and this is mostly taste !!! btw If you could PM the full name so I can make the update for you !!
btw suggestions as to wing position and other things has to do with personal preference. Wings bent usually don't look good, yours is not ... but the most aesthetic position is full up or down. One that we have fun with is wings on the side straight out shot from the side ... we refer to that as shooting a pancake from the side :)
