    Default Nikon lens repair

My Nikon 28-70 2.8 lens stalls when it trys to focus, and makes a grinding noise. I thought I would try that camera repair of the east coast, I think near Miami but I can't remember the name. I think it was southern something. Has any one had any experience with them. I normaly use Nikon in NY. Thanks Rod

Do not use Southern Photo in Miami.
They are an authorized Nikon repair facility, however my results with them has been extremely poor.

I sent my Nikon lens (28-70 2.8) with a sticky zoom directly to Nikon on Long Island. I was able to deal with everything online and, if your lens is less than five years old, it should be covered by warranty as mine was. I was pleasantly surprised by the quick turn around and quality of the repair.

    Rod:
I have used Southern Photo Repair for a replacement AF module on a 400mm afs II. Price was pretty good, customer service was pretty horrible. Apparently there was a back-order on a part for replacing the AF module. it was sent back to Nikon (NY) for repair. I had very little info from SP and got into an argument with the main guy who was pissed at me when I called Nikon direct to try and get some info. He was pissed because he said he was dealing with specific people at Nikon to get things taking care of for me faster than usual and i was jeopardizing it. He did apologize the following day when he realized he was completely unprofessional.
Anyway, the lens came back and the repair work was done (and done well by Nikon) and the price was good.

I also have used APS (?) in Morton Grove, Il. a former Nikon repair center before they went down to 2 locations. Quite pricey (repair to a DX2) but good communication, turn-around and shipped to my vacation location for me.

    Thanks and good luck.

BTW I am still on my 1st set of tripod leg "condoms" and loving them. They are long lasting and protecting my Gitzo in the salt water great.
