Let's welcome the August project, suggested by Avian mod Juan Aragones, who has great work in feathers in even published a very interesting article about them. He's coming back from his holiday in Portugal, so hope he can chime in.
Captured in St. Augustine Alligator Farm and cropped to highlight the feathers.

    Model: Canon EOS-1D Mark IV
    Lens (mm): 340
    ISO: 800
    Aperture: 5.6
    Shutter: 1/1250

This works really well for the new project, thanks for starting it. The composition, breeding plumage and eye contact make this one for me.

Fabs, this is brilliant. Well seen and executed. Design is very beautiful. Great stuff from you as always.

from wikipedia: The word "egret" comes from the French word "aigrette" that means both "silver heron" and "brush," referring to the long filamentous feathers that seem to cascade down an egret's back during the breeding season.
