The swirling motion is used by the Dunlin to stir up a meal and in the next frame the small crab can be seen as his meal. I like the swirl to show the behavior and if I had gotton lower I would have missed the swirling motion behavior

Scott, I feel your angle has worked well here, and I like the feeding pose of the Dunlin. Glad he got his meal.

Good feeding pose, eye contact, sharpness and water patterns/colors. It looks like a Willet to me.

Yes, lower is not always necessarily better. I like that we can see the crab and the catching. Another vote for a Willet.

Thanks for the id correction Alex and Fabs -- I actually debated long and hard between identifying this bird between Willett and Dunlin -- finally settled on Dunlin based on looking at the pictures in Audubon Socieity Field Guide. Both birds are in the area -- and If I were to take a picture of this bird again -- I would still have some trouble identifying it -- they seem so much alike to my eyes.

Willet bigger than Dunlin, if it helps.

Fabs -- thanks for the tip -- went back to the Audubon book and found that the Dunlin is Starling size -- while the Willett is 15" and id's as a large shore bird -- that will help me keep them straight

Scott, Nice pose and sharp details. I like the angle you chose for this capture.
