Hi Stephen what a great looking guy with real attitude too, love it. Personally I think there is more you can get out of it, which would, IMHO really make this image.
I just very quickly tried; Duplicate your layer, Curves > lighten it, Contrast say +10, USM say 100.0.3.0. Create a black mask and paint the Rhino in. I think the detail then just 'pops'?
See what you think.

Thanks for looking and the advice Steve. Here is a repost. Better?
lovely Rietvlei colours and dig the pose and light here Stephen - would love to see a repost with Steve's suggestions?
(oh I see we must've posted at the same time...pops nicely now!)

Personally I think this now works Stephen. With the tweaks I feel it illustrates the great potential of the image in the OP. How do you feel about it now?

Potential came out and sure like the re post ... got to like that expression !!!
What an imperious looking rhino, love this image for its' attitude, tonal quality and lack of distractions … has it all.
Stephen - very nice and agree with the others that the repost improves it.

Rachel
Excellent image and re-post took this over the top

What a marvelous expression:)
You got a great low angle. How did you get that? The angle accentuates the expression. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,

Thanks everyone for the comments.Steve, yes, I do like the repost more.
Sabyaschi, if you are driving the vehicle that you're shooting from yourself, you tend to be pretty low. This was also on a slight rise.
Very well done image Stephen. Excellent job.
great image ,love the typical what is that smell pose? repost makes it pop...
lets hope this wee chap has a better future than the rest of his species , can not believe the escalation in the poaching of Rhino this year... shocking ... looks like it could reach 200 by end of year..
A wonderfully clean image of the youngster and the repost is a big improvement.

Thanks again everyone for commenting. Peter, I believe the only way to really combat the slaying of the rhino's is some form of legalized trade in rhino horn. Someone has even suggested putting cyanide in the horns. Talk about an idea not thought through.:D
Nice shot. I like the pose and BG. The way the feet are solidly anchored on the ground portrays the stoutness of the animal for me.
Stephen,
I agree entirely with you whilst this forum is not the place for a discussion on poaching, my understanding is that there are ongoing discussions with regard to the setting up of farms for Rhino horn, and that China is considering this. The trade will never go away when you get the president of Vietnam saying it cured him of cancer:(
