    Default More experiments

This a photo of two of the three Lewa cheetah brothers, shown recently on the David Attenborough "Life" series hunting ostriches. This is collaboration with my husband as we look at experimenting with different styles and outcomes.
There has been no removing or adding elements, all I've done is some selective blurring on the grasses (the walking cheetah was already soft, so I've chosen to accentuate that for effect) and then some masking with Niksilver.
Obviously it will be hated by lots of you who like your wildlife to appear as you saw it through the viewfinder, so I'm prepared for that, but I'm looking for something different. All C & C will be taken in the spirit they've been given. :)

Hi Hilary, so you are enjoying yourself it appears, great and having fun by the look of things.:D

If you are experimenting then the blurring of the cheetah walking is for me, just too subtle, I think you need to be stronger in your approach. Perhaps looking at an alternative technique or emphasis the process more? The colour/tint is sympathetic as similarly used by people like Beverly Joubert & Nick Bradt who I adore, especially where you have vignetted the edges.

    U-Turn
However, to be honest I quite like it as is, but it might need a slight refinement or tweak, but what that might be I have no idea sadly.

You might also like to think about posting it in another Forum to get additional feedback too?

I have a thought, but drop me a PM with your email so I can forward if you want to. :D

Thanks Steve, I'm working on ideas and any suggestions will be taken on board and tried … but maybe not shown! :o Refining techniques necessitates some pretty weird and strange steps which may be in the totally wrong direction but I'm having fun and learning a lot about how I need to change my original capture on my next trip.

I like your idea Hilary, just not sure about the monochrome/sepia tone?
Could you submit the colour for comparison?

    Hilary,
It would be good if you can post the original without blurring of elements. That would give a good idea.

    Cheers,

Thank you everyone. Not sure myself about sepia tonings and still intend playing with them. OOTB is a great forum but I want to see if this is an effective wildlife image rather than just a technical exercise. I will think about posting the colour but I don't see the purpose as it won't change whether this works or not.

Stretching ones own boundaries is always a challenge, thanks for contributing. :)

Hi Hilary Love the experimentation and enjoy doing these !!! ... btw would be best posting in OOTB since it goes beyond what we do here ! Can re post original there.

Tried a couple of enhancements, like seeing the center animal more defined by increasing local contrast, blurred the sides just a tad then darken around center. Would have like seeing the image in general no so flat for a smoother transition ... couldn't do much from re post !!

Al I like your thoughts, this was what I mailed to Hilary this morning, thought I would add to the pot, but my thinking was to.

Retain both the moving Cheetah & the head on sharp one? I also tweaked the white in curves as I thought it lacked contrast? I was reluctant to post as it might be a good thread with alternatives from others, however I did not feel I wanted to hi-jacked or perhaps watered down? Trust Hilary doesn't mind.

Thanks Al and Steve for the suggestions, feedback and reposts. I know it takes time to play with someone elses photos so I thankyou for doing that. I'll go back to the original to try some contrast adjustments. I'll send you a message Al.
    Cheers Hilary
