The eye contact and the look makes this one for me.
nicely done.
Sid:
He looks rather mournful. I like the framing element provided by the tree, might consider a version with just a bit of a crop from the left to eliminate the background to the left of the trunk.
Nice flash work re: exposure, but are we seeing a shadow cast on the background?
Might be interesting to see the original background. Part of me thinks the BG looks a bit over processed. I know, we would complain about it looking too busy if you hadn't blurred it:p
Very good shooting angle for an owl.
Cheers

Angle, eye contact and setting make this one for me. Adding to the other comments, I might sharpen the owl a bit more.
I like the framing here, and good eye contact. Good wrk on the BG, and agree some selective sharpening will work.
The framing is nice, but the bird looks a little overflashed to me. I agree with Randy that the BG seems a little overprocessed, and I wonder if there's a slight magenta cast to the image.

Sid,
I LIKE IT!!! Excellent flash work...of course!! Like the BG also!!
Good Job!
Mike
Very nice, Sid. Ditto the above comments, esp. some crop off the left per Randy. Don't mind the blur too much, if you can soften the flash shadow edge. That and selective sharpening will do it for me.
Randy and Bill,
Here is an image as Randy suggested. I am placing my original with suggest crop for comparison. IMO cropping a bit from the left takes off good chunk of vertical branch and horizontal branch kind of over powers the image. To achieve a good balance between two branches for symmetry, I chose to leave a bit off BG at the left.
Sid:
Thanks for the repost, nice way to show it compared with original.
I favor the repost, but it is very slight preference. I appreciate the loss of the brighter white patch in lower left corner of the original post. It does make the tree seem a bit more massive as you noted.
The joy of photography, lots of room for interpretation, and the artist gets the final vote!
Cheers
Randy
