This one works for me. Makes one think. I assume this is not upside down, but rather a contorted preening action? Spectacular detail.

Going by what Arash said looks like the focus was more on the bill than the eye. But I like the pose and feather detail.

I love images that take your eye around and around the image, not really knowing where to stop--because the whole image is pleasing. The only thing that stopped my eye (besides its eye), is the top of the head. I cannot tell of those feathers are very slightly OOF or if they are a very different texture. This is not a complaint or criticism, I was just wondering.
It almost looks like you can see a person with the trees reflected in its eye ;-)

Maybe remove that little curly white feather top RHS?

Hi Lance, Overall it's an interesting image which causes one to study for awhile. I would have liked the whole image sharp but I see the SS you were dealing with.
I like your choice of crop along with even lighting and good exposure...

    An open eye, maybe?
Lance, I like the square comp with the placement of the eye and the varied feather arrangements.

What do you think of this crop? (I know the PS sucks)
IMO more room to the right balances the image out a little better.

I love this type of thinking and composition.

    Thanks for sharing Lance.

Looks good to me James - the little extra space does balance it out - I would have preferred for the head to be a little flatter against the body - or as Arash Mentioned a increase in ISO for some added DOF.

I like it a lot Lance, it's a different look to what we normally do, it's very 'arty'.
