Pretty much a standard portrait, however I was very excited to find this totally tame (this was at 285mm) Red Phalarope on the beach a couple days ago.

Fill flash used as the conditions were very foggy. Not much PS work, a little crop, curves and levels.

Very beautiful light and very nice over the shoulder look. The soft pinkish cast of the BG is very becoming to the bird's plumage. I think it needs some light CCW rotation.
Love the detail int he plumage and great head angle.

Sweet. Wonderful EXP, head turn, and use of flash. Yes to CCW rotation--look at the line of the sand below the feet. Nice BKGR and great light for this molting adult.

Thanks Fabs and Artie. Here's a repost with a tiny bit of CCW rotation. It still looks just a bit off, but I drew a line with the ruler and it was straight.

Sweet pose and nice detail. Great use of fill under tough conditions. Might like a small catchlight in the eye.

Young man, Do you know how to use the Ruler Tool and Image/Rotate/Arbitrary to level an image??? The repost is still a bit cock-eyed :)

Yes Artie, although I have been known to make mistakes :) I believe you were the one to show me how to level an image way back at Morro Bay.

I think I have finally gotten it right here.

That is close enough to pass :) My late wife used to say something like this to me. "I was right. Hooray. Now it is only 8,457 to 5.!" Her with the 5 of course :)

Like the colours/detail in the feathers, comp, and sharpness of eye/head. Especially like the feet digging into the sand. Soft, varied background, which is unobtrusive.

Hey Aidan, great low perspective, and just love the soft light and pastel colours. Good feather detail captured too.

Aidan, Simple but not easy. The BG and pose all came together nicely. Nice sharp details.

The low angle, soft light, look-back pose look very good but the BG colors make this one for me.

Angle and lighting do it for me. I do see see some dust bunnies though, some are faint but the one in the LLC stands out the most.
