I remember it being overcast when I captured this, and taken last year Sept, during my trip to the Kruger National Park. I couldnt do anything about the road, and didnt want him to go off the road, as he would have disappeared into the grass. These guys never keep still, so Im pretty lucky to have captured him as I have.

Cool looking bird and great capture. I thought this image could benefit from a slight levels/curves adjustment. Hope you don't mind.

    What do you think?

Hey James, I dont mind at all, and your version looks good. The only place I may disagree are the reds on the head. I feel you have lost a bit on your version. Thanks again.

Stuart - Nice sharp image, and I bet your angle was as good as possible (dealing with car constraints). Complimentary habitat inclusion works for me. I like the effects of James' curves adjustment.

Being an old Velvia fan then I like the redo. My bias !
Is the Swainson name from the same naturalist fame of Swainson. Warbler and Swainson Thrush ?

Charles, I have no idea where the fowl's name originated.

I'm not familiar with the species but like the walking pose, sharpness and BG. Slightly lighter seems to be a good idea.

Ver interesting bird and I like the pose. Repost looks good, but not being familiar with the bird, can't really comment on the colors. I thin it is terrific that we can look at species wil;; most likely never see in person (I mean bird)

Repost a big improvement. This one would have made a nice in camera vertical as it is a bit tight in the frame. Another option would have been to point the lens down a bit as there is more room below the bird than above. That should not be the case unless you have a good reason and there is no good reason here :) You would want more grass than road.

Thank you all for the great feedback and comments. Always appreciated.

Artie, good idea on the vertical, and as you said, there would still be some road below.
