    Default Black headed Heron

Photographed in the Mara North Conservancy walking amongst the flowers. I've left most of the flowers in, cloned out a couple which were right by the bird's head. I quite like them but others may feel that they are distracting. Looking at it again I feel I may have cropped too close to the head?

Taken at midday so lighting not optimum.

Hi Hilary, nice comp to go with the Heron. Appears that the bird's face has heavy shadow falling on it, I might wait for a different head turn as lighting on the face is most important. The foliage is a bit distracting too, a wide open aperture might be preferred.

Hi Hilary, I like the alert posture, and you have captured good feather detail on the wings. Comp works for me, and the space above the head is fine. The light just looks a bit harsh.

Harsh light well handled ! Bird is well exposed with good detail and colours. Like the pose. Well done !

Crop os not as bad as the harsh overhead light that makes you loose so much of the details in the whites and brings a lot of contrast to the shadows. Head angle;e and eye contact are good, I'd try again with better light and you will see a big improvement in image quality.
    It's all about the light!
