Since we could not land at Machias Seal Island best next thing was to ride around the little boat ... as you can see was not all that safer ..lots of birds flying close by but no keepers. Difficult shooting sitting from a moving boat !! .. will try it again next year !!! btw on the way over and back seas were flat calm !!!

    Comments welcome and much appreciated

Hi, had the same experience of not being able to get on the island with flat seas going out. When the boat was anchored I got sick as a dog due to it acting like a bobber. Not a happy experience...

I like the how clear the water is, and I can see the puffins on the left of your image. Do they dive below the water?

Yes, Puffins and Razorbills dive to catch fish.

Thanks Axel. Im not familiar with them, and only see images of them on the site, and most are in flight or portrait images. Always good to learn about other species.

They only come to these islands off the shore to breed and spend most of the year at the open ocean. It's always a treat to see them.
