This Loon came up right next to canoe and it was easy to get him. I guess since it was his choice to be next to us, it was OK to be close. Moosehead Lake, Maine.

DElightful! In my experience, especially if they have young, they will actually move closer to my kayak when the presence of an eagle is detected (at least in the place where they have gotten to know us kayakers). I, however, never seem to be quite as skilled or prepared as you were. Love the image, the water drops, the beautiful focus, etc. What did you do to process the image, if you don't mind sharing.

    Fabs:

Very nice exposure on the breast, with a very nice display of ribbing in the white feathers, which often doesn't show.
Love the drops, both on the head and in the air.
I might crop a sliver from the top.

    Another nice one.

If the bird comes to you, I can't think anyone would say that you are stressing it. I freq. have them swim inside min focusing range, or dive under my boat and pop up on the other side. I always have two cameras set up, so I have something short for when they do that.

    Cheers

    Thanks, everyone.
Allan, I was using manual mode, so I don't recall the compensation. I know light was very dim and we had to fight for shutter speed, wanting to expose to the right and get sharp pics at the same time. Since the light was so low, hard to blow the whites, though.

Really good Image. Exposure looks spot on detail is great and that water splash adds loads of interest to the image. Well done, congrats.

Cool portrait, what I like best is the pattern of the droplets on the head that complements the whites on the back.

Simply beautiful, Fabs. Excellent job on exposure, tricky with those bright breast feathers. And of course the water droplets really put it over the top. Congrats!
