    Bert:

Strong sense of action/interaction here, well exposed, effective DOF.

From a graphic standpoint, I think the image would be stronger if the birds didn't overlap.
The upper birds feathers are rather beat up, makes me think this isn't his first fight!

My guess is that the bright objects in the upper background are birds, but I might try to tone them down a bit. You really want to keep our attention on the interaction and off the background I would think.

    Cheers, congrats on your capture.

Bert, Great shot. The details in the feathers is fantastic. The action amazing and the interaction great. However, I do find the BG behind the upper Heron very distracting. Not much you can do about it - maybe a selective blur might help.

Great shot and worth the wait :)

Sweet on the incoming bird and both sharp with good use of d-o-f. The merge of the bird on the ground with the incoming bird greatly reduces the dramatic quality of the image. When I first looked at it my eyes had to search for the head and neck of the 2nd bird... Otherwise ditto Randy.

Hello Bert (Glad to see you here :-) )

First of all this is a fantastic shot! Not having a 500mm lens, I'm surprised to realize the long dof you can have at f5.6. Speed (1/2500s) was an excellent choice to obtain the wings frozen like that. I agree that if the birds were distinctly separated the dramatic impact would have been improved. But details, exposition, and action are awesome!!!

    TFS,

    Michel
