thought I will introduce my family with this picture.

From left to right : My son Yanni (named after the musician), Yours Truly Me, My darling Wife Neeta, My sweet cousin Divya ( It was her wedding pre ceremony), My pretty Sister Kishu and My Naughty nephew Sunny.

We belong to a clan called Kodavas in Coorg from south India. just pulled out a extract from wiki for people who want to know more: The Kodava are an ethnic group from the region of Kodagu, in Karnataka state of southern India. They were traditionally land owning agricultural community with a martial tradition and natively speak Kodava takk. [1]. The Kodavas have a well defined military tradition during the course of their recorded history and Kodavas generally dignify themselves as Kshatriya[2][3][4]. Their rituals are closely aligned to forms of nature and ancestor worship rather than following strict Vedic principles [5].

Kiran - thanks for sending this awesome, colorful photo of the family. I really enjoyed looking at it and sorting out the fine details, like the knives in the boy's belts. Sunny definitely has a mischeivous look, Yanni is precocious, I bet, and the ladies are indeed beautiful. You are a lucky man. Take care.

Thanks for sharing, Kiran! Do people wear the traditional clothing on special occasions only?

Thanks Axel Bhai, yes only on occasions.

we have some crazy customs too, one such was "Nari Mangala" in earlier days the tiger population was quite good around coorg and some would turn on cattle or humans, these were hunted down by coorgi men, but because of there love and respect for the tiger. They would marry the soul of the tiger to the man who had killed the tiger in an actual fullon ceremony. you can read more here http://www.harappa.com/engr/tiger.html

Kiran, I knew you were from Coorg but not the other details. A day when you learn something new is a good one. Thx for sharing.

    Kiran bhai,

It is so nice to see a family portrait in traditional robes. Great job keeping up the tradition alive.

Wow Kiran, this is what I call an excellent portrait of a family. I enjoyed the reading of the additional information about the Kodava people and the Nari Mangala, really interesting. Thanks a lot for sharing this with us :)
