I tried to compromise between too much of a crop, and including too much of the post, and this is what I ended up with. Thanks for looking, and comments.

I like it as the post has a nice pattern to it. Nice and interesting shot of this sparrow on perch and nice looking background too.

Hi Richard. The post has texture, and with the pleasing background and pose of the bird, this is a nice shot.

Great BG and detail in the subject as well as fine exposure. I find the perch a bit overpowering as it is very large for such a small bird.

Though the perch had character count me in with Joe; it is too big for the bird. Can you post the original full frame capture please?

Thanks for the comments - Here's the original - just converted from the original Raw file to a Jpeg in LR3, and downsized enough to post here - no other post-processing applied. The original was an opportunistic image, taken hand-held in the moment the bird perched on the post (Sounds like an excuse, doesn't it!).

Thanks Richard. I gotta say that your original post looked pretty darned good for such a huge crop. I figured that there might be a pretty good image somewhere in the ORIG. I cropped, got rid of one stalk and eliminated one bright spot in the BKGR. Alla s described in Digital Basics.

To me both pictures are good, the first is a nice close look at the song sparrow and the 2nd is more of a habitat shot. You pay your money and take your choice
