    Default Cactus Paint Art

Had some fun photographing dancing paint drops with my friend Jerry Fornarotto yesterday. Not so much fun cleaning up afterwards though, but afterall not too bad.
I used a small home theatre speaker (any small computer speaker should do) an amp and connected my laptop to the amp in order to generate the sound waves. The placement of the paint drops, viscosity and different sound waves will result in different effects.
This partiular shape looked to me sort of like a cactus plant and I liked the colors blending together.
    Specs - Canon 50D - 180mm - f/22 - bulb mode- 2 Canon Speedlites @ 1/32 output.
Cropped in order to remove the negative space since this was a low riser bounce. Applied Nik darken/lighten filter. I choose not to remove the specular h/l.

Hi Susan, beautiful range of color, texture and form. Lighting is even with the shadow well muted. The backround is compiimentary along with the splash being offset. Well executed and creative......

    Hi,
Dave thanks for your feedback, I really appreciated it. Jerry it was fun indeed and long over due. Glad we finally got together. Thanks for dealing with the paints so I would not ruin my manicure. :D And for making the clean up a breeze.

This is really cool, Susan! :D Very interesting shape! It looks more like a sculpture than a splash. Love all the mixed colors and the yellow BG.

Susan, I love the colors and the 3D look to this. Really nicely done - well thought out and executed. Thanks for sharing!

At first glance I thought it was a glass vase, what a clever and well executed technique. Lovely.

    Hey Suasan,
You know I love this!....it is a liquid sculpture!!! You nailed the color and the BG too! Glad to see you and Jerry got such great results! I know this is only the tip of the iceberg for you!

Totally cool Susan. I wonder next time if you could post a pic of your set-up to see how you do this. Love the colours in the paint. Must be completely different than photographing water.

Thanks for your comments, Roman, Paul & Jackie!
Paul you basically put paint drops on a speaker and play a sound wave, which makes them bounce.
Jackie, I always forget to take a pic of my setup. I will try my best to remember next time. I guess after I am done I am so eager to clean up that the pic becomes an after thought. Thanks for suggesting it.

Susan, this is totally cool and reminds me of a Dale Chihuly glass sculpture.:)

Thanks for your comments, Cheryl. All the comments have convinced me this does look like a glass sculpture and not a cactus. I am now wondering where I got a cactus from.
