Having grown up in Miami, the banana bloom has always intrigued me. The shapes, the colors and the lines are unique. I photographed this one at Zoo Miami with my Canon 5D Mark II. EF100-400mm, f/4.0-5.6L IS USM, 130mm, ISO 1600, f/8.0, 1/400sec, Evaluative Metering, Auto Exposure, Auto WB, No Flash. Comments Welcome.......
Hi Richard, nice, even lighting on the subject. I like the slight diagonal of the stem and the leaves acting as a frame.
The backround's hot areas should be toned down or elimiminated so as not to distract from the flower....
I'm glad you brought up the highlights. I would love to hear others ideas as to toming them down. I burned them in and yet they still stick out slightly. I'd love to hear everyone's ideas............
I'm an expert on hot spots--they're in all of my photographs (sigh). . . They're not as bad as mine, however, I would agree. The flower is beautiful, what a treat--I've never seen a banana bloom! Such colors and shapes, and like DMills said--it virtually frames itself!
Hi Richard - you know - I grew up with these things in my backyard - and never saw the beauty of that bloom until your image.
Certainly difficult to get a angle on one - like it a lot.
Agree about the hot spots.
So Lance, How would you fix them? They were not that noticeable when I took the shot. Everyone says to fix the hot spots but no one says how...... With all this talent, I need some answers!! I've tried various ways and I'm not satisfied.
