Shot near downtown Toronto this past May!
Sun was behind me, but the background had a lot of garbage in it so that's why I decided to go with a head shot.

    ISO 200
    0 ev
    f/5.6
    SS 1/1000
    Nikon D300s + VR 80-400 @ 400mm

    C&C would be appreciated!
    thanks in advance

The exp looks good, but the eye could use some lightening. Sometimes garbage in the BG ends up revealing some nice portraits!

Alvan, Nice shot. I would agree with Bryan that you need some catchlight on the eye.

Alvan, I echo the comments on the eye, but this is a lovely head shot - beautiful details :)

Good detail on this close-up. I sometimes too go for a close head shot when I want to exclude the background or show more detail. Headshots sometimes look even better when more of the body is included. We're already getting shorebirds here in Ottawa and struggling with the same issues as you, trying different angles to get a better background.
