    Default Focus Point advice (1dmk3)

    Hi,

Well ,I got a good deal on a second hand 1dmk3 and have found a second hand 400mm f5.6. Happy days. Now I just have to get it set up for how I like it and get used to the whole new combo.

The question I have for fellow mk3 users is in relation to which focus points to select for BIF and stationary birds.

Do you use the central point without any custom functions on? Or do you use the custom functions to assist left and right or surround? OR.....use the circular set up around the central point?

Servo is a must I am guessing. I tried a few things out this weekend but found that the af was still hunting or couldn't keep up with BIF. I tried turning focus search off as well.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers

    Brigsy.

I used the central AF point only. For BIF, setting it to 'slow' is a good idea, too. Have fun with your new toy. :)

    DITTO!

Congrats mate, now to learn to love your MKIII I suggest you get Artie's set up for it and EXPERIMENT!, The MKIII is a Camera you have to learn to love and many that rubbish it simply have not got the patience to do so, their loss.

Remember BIFs are about the hardest form of photography with possibly the least keepers but remember, anyone can photograph a still bird on a perch, but a Peregrine in a dive, that is a horse of a totally different hue.:)
