    I was intrigued by the eye of this immature Tricolored Heron who perched on a rail nearby.

    Hi Milt, I like your crop selection but in this case due to the heavy crop the image is extremely noisy which has drastically reduced the image quality.
    Regarding lighting I would have preferred even lighting on the birds face rather than it in shade. The beak also appears very hot...

    Hi Milt - as mentioned the IQ is just not here on this one - must be a very large crop.
    The mixed lighting is also not ideal and always going to be a challenge.

    I think you need more post-processing treatment as it does look soft and perhaps not totally in focus. But could be caused by something else, too. I think there's a tutorial on NAPP website that shows how to use Emboss filter in Photoshop to make out-of-focus image looks focused....just a suggestion. :)

    Hi Milt With the low ISO setting and noise the image had to be a little under exposed? Open up about one and its noise city even for a D3s !!!!

    For tight head shots is better to work your way up close since heavy crop will show and these images are about detail !!!! Looking forward to the next one !!!
