Surreal mallard and fish
Traveling into the desert areas outside Las Vegas, we found Lake Powell. The water was so clear that when I shot the mallard, I also got some of the large fish swimming around it Seemed rather surreal in print I think the fish in the lower left that looks like he's spewing water is actually full of "whiskers". Taken in the shade, f 56, iso 400, 80 mm some curves lightening and used the Craqelure filter in PS to give it a textured look.
Hazel, Nice to see you posting again. I was at Lake Powell and it really was beautiful and clear. The image seems a bit dark on my monitor. I do like the effect you applied and the fish put this over the top.
Danise, I'm trying to repost a brighter version, used curves for that. My monitor sometimes doesn't coorcinate with BPN.
Hazel, It looks better but it looks as though it could go a touch lighter still. The calibration strip at the bottom of the page is shown so that you can check your monitor for light and dark. You should be able to see all 17 different tones on the strip clearly. That is usually an indication that your light/dark settings are correct if you can. Hope that helps:)
Like this one a lot Hazel. Sort of eerie with those big fish swimming around. I think dark gives it a good feel, don't know if you have the colour picker tool but I use it a lot to check my lights and darks. Never try to get below 9 for the darks, and between 232-235 for the brights.
Hi Hazel, I like the brighter look of the repost. Don't you love it when your camera surprises you in a good way? The mallard seems totally oblivious to the fish lurking below. The texture makes a nice surface for the water.

Guess your batting 500, as I agree with Jackie. I like the feel of the original better than the lightened looking one. But as they say ... ;) :D
