    Default Half Mile Of ****

Half Mile Of **** - I shot this photo at the High River Rodeo just south of Calgary. Four chuckwagon teams are raced around a figure eight barrel obstacle, and the stove and tent poles within the wagon must not be lost. The racing team also has from two to four "outriders" who load the stove and tent poles at the start and must finish the race with the chuckwagon. Chuckwagon racing is possibly the most exciting racing that you have ever seen!

That would be really cool to watch. I would hate to be in the rear with all the dust kicked up by the lead teams. Nicely done.

Do they use the old time wagons with real wooden wheels ?

When the Chucks first started racing, the guys used real wagon parts and horses that worked on the ranch when not racing. Once Chuckwagon racing came in to vogue, and companies began buying the tarps (for advertizing throughout the race season), the wagons became hig-tech assemblies with thoroughbred race horses harnessed to the front of the wagon. They are so fast with the 4 horse team, that the following outriders riding on their own individual thoroughbreds have trouble keeping up, but yet they must cross the finish line with their specific wagon, or the team garners penalty points.

Sorry, I took the one image rule, as not starting a new thread before 24hrs.

    Hey Alfred,
I would have removed the second photo, however I am not allowed to edit my posts.
