Hi Michael
Got a couple of suggestions When you find a bird to photograph try to predict the outcome of pushing the shutter before hand !!! In this case you have a bird with a steep angle, Light is from your hard left and the bird is looking away from you !!!! What are your chances?
If you go through this thought process you will be making great images in not time !!!!
Keep posting what you get and you will see the improvement !!!!
