This shot was taken well after dusk, in very low light. I know it's a bit soft, and I'm sure the pro's do this sort of thing all the time, but being new to bird photography I was impressed with what today's equipment can do... This image is at 100% pixel size.

    Canon 7D, 600mm, ISO 2000, F5.6, 1/60!

    Hi Steve - So Close!!

Love the pose - setting and BG. Might move him out of the centre a little.
A little noise in the BG - easy to remove.

BUT - DOES appear very soft. Probably due to the slow SS.
    Flash might have helped here!

if it is a 100% pixel view it explains why it is soft and lacking in detail, you had a nice pose and BG just needed to get way closer :)

Everything is there, just need the sharpness. But love the pose and the colours. Love the blue you have rendered.

Hi Steve, nice pose, perch, backround but soft as stated. Shooting birds at 1/60 sec is inviting dissapointment. They have alot of subtle movements which often aren't noticeable.

Thanks for all the helpful comments. This poor guy had been trying his best to use one of my Bluebird nest boxes, and had even found a female to accept the box, but then got chased away by Swallows... The couple came back for a second try, had laid six eggs only to get chased off by Sparrows!!!

This was the one and only chance I had to get a shot of him on the pine tree, but the light was very low. I grabbed the camera, set it to C2 (per Artie's 7D manual) and was lucky to get a few shots off before he took off - for good! In hindsight, I should have opened to F4 and an even higher ISO to get a decent SS.

Like Lance said - So close! Thanks again.
