    Default Young Cheetah

Our safari vehicle happened upon a mom cheetah with 2 young resting in the shade of a tree. I loved the look of the green vegetation and the purple flowers with the cheetahs. Photographed on the Ndutu Plain, Tanzania in mid-April.

    Canon 40D, Canon 400 f4 DO lens + 1.4x
    1/400, f7.1, exp. comp. +1/3, ISO 500

I added a little to the left side of the image and removed a flower stalk that went right into the whiskers of the upper lip. There is this bright spot between the purple flowers and the cheetah's mouth that I just struggled and struggled with. I used Content Aware, Healing Brush and finally dodging. I can't get it less conspicious and still keep it natural looking with the whispy whiskers extending into it. I want to print this photo so would really be glad for any comments for improvement. Thank you.

The most obvious thing to say is that the eye does not stand out enough, possibly lightening it would assist. Other than that this is a good portrait.

Hi Nancy, an unusual setting for a Cheetah amongst flowers, great to see.

Firstly could you post the original file ie convert the raw to a web image file, or, can you say what you have done to the file. The reason I ask is there is some detail even in this image albeit that I have pushed it, but if you have added any thing in curves, levels etc where black has been increased it would be good to know. Also can you indicate the area you want to tone down, is it here as per the arrow?

I think we can get more out of the image around the nose, mouth & eye although this is OTT, but I think we might be able to improve. ;)

Here is the original. Steve, you placed the arrow in the exact place that concerns me. You can see in the original there is branching vegetation tthat I tried to removed mixced in with his whiskers. What do you recommend? Thank you very much.
