Lee I am no expert and try to keep all PP down to a minimum, but you could try:

Duplicating your 'final' file and just bringing back some of the detail using Exposure & Gamma for the lighter areas in the hope that the detail comes through. Then mask and paint in those areas. if that makes sense, then flatten. In addition if this works, then duplicate the file, go to screen in the layers palette and in Opacity drop it to say 10%. It helps to bring some of the detail back in.

Still a fine image with great detail.

I am sure others will have better suggestions.

What a pose!! loved those outstretched primaries and that BG is incredible. I dont know how white the bird is really...so you can be the judge and decide to pull the exposure down if needed. Compared to Chris's image from yesterday, this one looks brighter.

w.r.t sharpening, lot of us here sharpen after resizing and sharpen only the bird excluding the edges. Here are a couple of threads from the educational resources forum that might help. I use 'refine edge' all the time.

Cool wing position, good sharpness and BG. I might give it a bit more room and as for the highlights, you could adjust the midtones to 0.9 or so or adjust curves to tone them down a bit.

That full stretched wings take this over the top. Excellent image Lee.

Super pose and BG here. Light not too bad. I would tone-down the midtones a touch as Axel mentioned.

Thank you for the replies and comments folks, I do try my best to keep PP down to a minimum. all the work i do is basically cropping, adjusting white and black points, noise reduction and sharpening. and once in a blue moon i remove distracting elements from shot, but those shots are for my own use then.

I Have done a edit of the shot where i selected just the bird then colour range, and selected under the wings. i then added a levels layers and adjusted the middle slider to 0.87(which i think is for your midtones) which toned down the whits a bit.

thanks for help, really appreciate it

Killer pose and BKGR. Select color for the whites, Refine edge soft, Control J, and the Linear Burn on the Layer at about 80% opacity. It worked even better than I expected; there was lots of detail there.
