    Default Extreme Studs

Welcome to motorcycle Ice Racing on frozen water. Not for the faint of heart as you may suspect by the conditions in this photo as these ice racers race their stud equiped motorcycles under extreme conditions. It was a challenge keeping my fingers warm in the -25 Celsius temperatures as I lay in a snowbank at the edge of the track shooting photos. A light pair of fleece gloves works well with another pair of fleece over mitts when needed. Of course, I was wearing a parka with insulated pants and Sorrel felt lined boots on my feet. I cannot imagine how the guys and gals on these motorcycles could stand the cold as they raced around this 1/4 mile oval. The windchill factor made for extreme racing!

As far as cameras in -25C temperatures, its a piece of cake. The batteries are the only thing you want to pay attention to when out for hours on end in -30C temperatures. I carry a extra set near my body to change out the set in the camera when they begin to protest. When I set out in those temperatures, I allow the camera to climatize and the glass to clear, then your good to go, but don't try and keep your camera in your jacket near your body! Other than that, I love being out and about in these temperatures with crunchy snow under your boots!
