    Default Green Jay

One from Texas, where I spend 1 month together with Jasper Doest taking pictures at a ranch in the Rio Grande Valley. This set-up shot is one I am very happy with. I am pretty green when it comes to set-ups and hart was pounding in my chest when I saw this guy landing on one of my perches.

Even though the end of the tail is cut off I was very happy with the attentive pose. I cropped this one as I felt this pose allowed for a tighter crop. Some might find the perch a bit too bright but I toned it down already and felt this was ok.

    Hope you agree

The curious pose, eye contact and BG make this one for me, interesting perch, too. I might put the bird a tad further to the right in the frame.

Krijn, the pose is terrifc...so is the perch. A riot of colors. Excellent DOF work and beautiful bokeh.

A little crop from right will work better IMO...because the bird is not looking that way. I find the contrast a bit on the higher side.

Beautiful bird Krijn, and I love the perch - do not find it too bright. I like the negative space on the right :)

nice pose, perch and BG, I like to see more detail in the blacks and would also sharpen the chest area feathers more. Agree with moving the bird a bit to the right. TFS

Thanks people for all the comments.

Arash, I agree with your compositional point but don't really understand the sharpening suggestion you made. From my end the sharpness of the breast feathers is already borderline. I think I will keep the blacks as they are, on my monitor there is plenty of detail showing......

In any case thanks a bunch for the comments, very much apprieciated!

    Cheers,

    Krijn

Excellent pose, perch, and BG. Sharpness looks good on my monitor; the 300mm f/2.8 really does well with a 2x and good technique. Most of the blacks have detail; the only exception on my monitor is the black in front of the eye.

Great exposure and pose. IMG is sharp and the colours spot on. Like the eye contact and bg. Well done !
