I like the backlit profile and the great color in the water.

Some fabulous colors in this image, with a nice pose and composition. I'd consider burning in some of the darker areas as it looks spotty in some of those edges. I also like the backlighting on the fish itself.

Very striking image with wonderful color and the silouhette with the fish makes this image for me. My only nit would be the tight crop on the left. Otherwise gorgeous.

I love this image the color is wonderful. I love the comp of this one too! Another thing that makes this one stand out to me is the way the light is shining through the fins of the fish. This to me just adds to the shot and really helps to show off the prey!

I still need to up there this year..

    Wonderful silhouette!

Wish you had a little more room around to show off that golden water.

What makes this special to me, besides being beautiful, is the rim light on the fish :)

Beautiful silhouette with great sunset colors. I'm with Fabs about the rim light on the fish being one of the highlights here. Makes for a nice contrast to the dark heron.

This image is very nice with some vivid colors. I wish the composition was in horizontal allowing room in front of the Heron but a fine image as it is.

PS: The fish is a nice plus!! :)

    Welcome, Don
This is a grand entrance. This one's all about the color. I do love that rim lighting as well. Several have mentioned the composition and I think they're all good suggestions.

    Don,
Boy am I glad we were able to get you online!
This is a beautiful and dramatic image. I love it.
IMO the image does "feel" a little close and I would prefer a crop that is not so tight.
If this is not a crop and you wanted more room, do what I call a reverse crop.
Add canvas and clone/copy the background.

    Welcome aboard.

Many thanks to all of you for the kind words and helping with the composition. I copied and pasted vertical strips on each side and blended with the clone tool. I believe the resulting image is improved.

    Hi Don,

I love the color in the water and light on the fish's fins. Beautiful sihouette! I too wish for more room to show of the beautiful bg and give the Heron some space in front.
