Kalahari lions are probably the most beautiful of all lions, famed for their magnifcent dark manes... this lion I found asleep early one winters morning, turning off my engine he woke with a mad look in his eye ...he did not like me photographing one bit... charged me a couple of times just to let me know who was boss... i did not argue:)

    Peter,

This is a very fine specimen, the fact that the eyes are relatively clear helps a lot.

I would not argue with him either.

    Where was it takem?

A bit tight on top but not a big issue. The light is awesome and those eyes..... I also wont argue. Fantastic image Peter.

Hendri, agree a bit tight , only manage to squeeze a few shots off... he seriously was not a fan of the nikon 600mm lens sticking out of my window.... so i did not focus on the comp as much as I shud have,,

Peter - Beautiful portrait. I agree with the other comments about a little more space on top but also understand that in the field we're often just trying to get the shot without concentrating on the comp. Well done.

As they say the eyes have it, great pose and lighting here Peter.
Agree about the quality of Lion in the Kalahari, we were also charged by a similar big black maned male (at Deception Valley), where was this taken Peter?

I like the light and you have managed to focus well. Lovely eye contact. The mood is evident. No arguments with the Boss. :-)

Beautiful, you got all the elements for a classic here, love the different golden hues. The expression in the eyes is priceless.
It shouldn't be difficult to add a little canvas on top.
