    Default Kittiwakes Take Flight

Just returned from a cruise of Prince William Sound in Alaska. I saw lots of black legged kittiwakes including several colonies that seemed to like to float on the icebergs near at least one of the glaciers. As the boat would approach they would all take flight. Of course, they always took flight in a direction away from the boat. This was taken after dinner in waning light but the water is actually blue/green from the glacial runoff. This is something very different for me so I'm trying to decide if it works.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Rachel, It is an interesting image. The birds appear sharp but I see very little detail in the whites in the birds or the iceburg.. If possible I would extend the left and right side due to the birds being so close to the edge.

Dave - I realized I also had Exp Comp of +2/3 so I reprocessed the RAW and tried to recover some of the details in the white. I was able to recover some in the snow but not much in the birds . I also kept a little more room all around. Thanks for the comments. Of course all other comments and suggestions are welcome.

Hi Rachel - agree with Daves comments - the repost looks a little better - best to get as close as possible in camera - turn on your over exposure warning in camera and make use of the histogram on the camera's LCD.
Looking forward to seeing more :)

    Hi Rachel
I find this shot has a nice feel to it. I like the first crop, but would like to see the 2 birds on he edges cloned out and the ice berg straightened. This would give it a lovely classical pyramid composition. Great shot.

Hi Rachel. Like the image. Few colours but lots going on. Would be careful in PP as it seems the process has introduced some dark halo's around the birds? Might be me but worth a look.

    Happy Shooting.

Hi Stuart - Thanks for the comment. I'm not sure what you're seeing with respect to halos. I don't see any. Anyone else seeing what Stuart is?

    Thanks,
    Rachel
