from my bosses' son's little league baseball game. i was doing some research on this type of photography and found that actually getting the ball in the same frame is a rarity. i can vouch for that! 2 in a 100 maybe?

    D300, bigma at 135mm, f/8, 1/1250s, ISO 400, manual exp.

thanks for looking. comments much appreciated.

Good one H. Love how the catcher has his mitt extended. However, don't know how he would have been able to catch the ball if it wasn't hit because his eyes are closed
    Nice details all around
    Congrats

Good job on the action. It is hard to do since they seldom make contact.

Whether it's L.L. or the bigs you will almost always see the catchers eyes closed at time of impact. (Oscar beat me to the punch while typing)

Another good shot to try especially of the younger ones is getting them leaving the box towards first. They usually have an astounded look.

Looks like the batter has his eyes closed too. Hard to tell. Good one to get the ball in Harold.

thanks for the comments, guys. both of them had their eyes closed! it's neat seeing the tiff. i had to compress the heck out of this one to get it under 200 and it lacks the punch of the larger file.

Your right on that count, as I spent several seasons photographying my wife's baseball team, and spent much time behind center field with a long lens, working on capturing the ball coming off of the batter's bat!

It is a nice image, Harold. Capturing the scene with the ball in it, improves with time. Having a camera that shoots a lot of FPS also helps.

I shoot LL up through HS and it is typical for the catcher to close their eyes. In LL most of the batters close their eyes, but I start seeing better eye contact at the HS level. I have lots of images where the ump has their eyes closed! You have to wonder how they make the call when their eyes were closed.

I like where you caught the position of the batter with this shot. As somebody else already mentioned, getting them running to first base and seeing the thrill in their face is great too!
