Another Pelican shot from last week. I think I like this pose better and the light was better than the first shot.

Agree on both counts Paul Still the light is from your right Half the bird is on shadows For special effects it is fine

I like the pose and framing Got the bird sharp Would rather have less a steep angle but is a pleasant image btw great head angle It also applies with this pose Looking forward to Number 3 ...... this might end up like Edward and the Peppers !!!!

The side light doesn't bother me too much here since the main parts of the face are in the sun. The one dark spot created by a shadow from a fold in the pouch bugs me a little. The shape and placement of the head / neck work real nice.

A couple more pointers to add. I would crop off half the space at right, and add that cropped off amount to the left. Some selctive sharpening of the eye area would be good too. Good pose by the bird!

Agree with the above comments and the suggestion on the cropping would strengthen this image. Real nice pose and beautiful eye contact Paul. thanks for sharing.

With the forehead and part of the eye in shadow, this light angle does not at all work for me.

Thanks for the excellent feedback. More to think about in the field. (Not sure why the image looks soft here, it's plenty sharp full size including the eye.)

I'm getting the sense that shadows are a no-no in bird shooting....good info! :)
