I have posted water drops in OOTB, macro, and the new exilharation forum and Al suggested I may post one here so that others can get a few ideas and ask me questions about the technique.
Doing single drops is relatively easy and inexpensive....a pinhole in a bag or soda bottle...hung about 18 inches above a paint bucket or tray with 2 inches of water.....strobe bounce of white card stock (or colored) at 1/32 power......with some timing and many images....possible! This multiple drop collision was done yesterday at Susan Candelario's house.....multiple strobes (2 canon 580EX's) and a specialized machine (The time machine)...which controls the size of drops, drop sequence, strobe lag....to the 100th of a millisecond! Temperature, humidity levels, atmoshpheric pressure....all affect the settings. We have done this numerous times.....all previous setting were out as it was very humid in NJ....so back to square 1. 12 hours later and thousands of shutter actuations.....we are now exploring 3 drop colisions.....this one is one of the first. Although not as evident as some of my later shots.....the 3rd drop collapsed the wall of the plate. Combining fire and water has always been a dream of mine....pushing the envelope of my equipment only makes this that much more fun! Your imagination is the only limit when it comes to water drop photogrpahy!
Canon 1D Mark lll with the Canon 180mm macro....2 twin lihgts at 1/32 power all tripod mounted at f16 for 0.4 sec at ISO 800. Blue cardstock in BG.

Missed how the fire got in there Roman.... I love the water drop shots. Might desat the BG a bit as I find it competing with the drop. Must be so much fun (and work) to do these.

Hey Dave.....single water drops are easy......collisions.....not so much.....more difficult w/o "The Time Machine"!
Jackie...sorry....worried it got a litle long winded. Picture of flame....in the blue BG.... is how I got the fire into the image. Last time I tried black....so like the blue for the water....easy tone down though....Thanks!
