    Default The Widow Maker

I shot this photo on the Kananaskis River in southern Alberta back several years ago, where kayakers gather to run some of the best white-water around. This kayaker is running a series of shuets on the river, with this one called "The Widow Maker." My vantage-point on this day was a huge boulder that allowed me to position myself just above and to the side of this particular shuet. I shot this photo with a Canon 40D and 70/200 @ 70mm - ISO400 - 550EX flash - 1/180 sec @ f5.6

Hi Jerry Great action I would be hesitant to run a rapid with that name ..... or any rapid for that matter !!! Like how the water is shown with the slower shutter speed but enough to freeze the person !!! .. could brighten the whites a bit more Bid
Congrats !!! ...... also can assume that water is on the chilly side :)

Thanks, and yes the water in the Kananaskis is somewhat on the chilly side, considering it is fed by snowmelt!

All kayakers in this neck of the woods are wearing wetsuits including booties on their feet to stay warm while running white-water, and this includes July and August.

The Widow Maker was hitting back on this day, and this kayaker found out the hard way as he parted company with his kayak!
