I just got back from spending 5 days in the Whitsundays. This was one of the highlights for me, as it's the first time I've seen this species in the wild.
Canon 400 300f4+1.4tc, ISO200, f5.6, 1/1600, -0.3, Av mode, Ev metering.
Self critique would be that I've possibly pushed the PP a bit far but oversaturating the blues, the whites are a tad hot and the bird has just flown past me.
All critiques and comments welcome.

Hi Mark Great self critique !!! Good on all points !! Can make a couple of more
For exposure is best going to manual in this situation, you will be picking up more or less of the white duck, different tones in bg and exp would have to vary up to one stop .... but the bird is in the same light ... so it has to get over or under exposed, no chance !!! Focus wise seems to be more on the wing than the head area, not easy keeping the af point there .. would try one point for this one rather than all points, if the af grabs the near wing the eye area will be oof !!
Not sure if you can recover the whites here but can try doing a double conversion ... one linear the other conventional !!!
Hi Mark, between your self critique and Al's suggestions I feel most has been covered. One minor point is the image could use a bit of CW rotation. In this case not that noticeable...
The IQ of the image in the post is a little different to the image itself. I'm not sure if that's a bug with the new forum, or an issue on my side.
@Alfred, I think you're spot on about where the AF point is. I only use the middle AF point, and given that I tracked the bird as it approached me it's most likely the AF point moved from in front of the bird to the back and then fixed on the wing as it flew past me. My current camera is not very good for BIF shots unfortunately.
This was taken around midday in Qld, so the sun was pretty harsh. I was a little concerned at the brightness of the bg and how vibrant it is and whether it was too distracting from the bird.
@ Dave, Thanks Dave. I'll try a repost sometime later today with both of yours and Alfreds suggestions.
