Sorry for those who have already seen this. I still hang around at "the other forums" from time to time :D
So last week I was on a relaxing vacation in the Dominican Republic. A beautiful country that has to be discovered, from what I have seen there are plenty of things to do for a bird photographer there! Alas I had only limited gear with me and the rum was good so I did not take the time to capture all the marvels that I observed.
This Kestrel was an exception. I saw him hunting within the hotel site three days in a row. The first time he had killed a bird right in front of me - of course I wasn't ready for a picture - and the prey was too heavy to fly away with. So inspired by all the photos posted here of Artie crawling in all kind of materials I immediately laid on the ground and begun crawling. I was able to get quite close, this is only slightly cropped on a 20D and 300mm f/4L. Closer and the bird was obviously disturbed so I crawled back.
What do you think? I know it's not one for the books but I'd still like to hear your comments.
Cheers,
Philippe.

Philippe I like the shallow DOF, the low angle and the direction of the light. The catchlight in the eye is also nice. A touch of a head turn towards you would have moved this up a level.
Cool image of the kestrel and tac sharp. Excellent exposure, detail and lighting. A slight head turn would be nice but like it very much as posted. Thanks for sharing Phillippe.
