Default Fast compact flash card readers?

    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a fast compact flash card reader? In particular, one that will do USB 2 and USB 3. I just got a computer with USB 3 ports.

Does your computer have Firewire 800? This is what I use.

    Axel,
One of my laptops does not have firewire. Not sure of the speed of the firewire on the others (I need to check that).

I don't think there is a USB 3 reader out yet. I found the Pretec P240 on the net but not a place that is selling it. I have a pretty fast USB 2 reader that is advertised as over 30MB/s read & 22MB/s write. I did one test with it using a SanDisk Extreme IV 45MB/s 16 GB card with 73, 7D files on it. I ran it on a Dazzle reader and it downloaded at around 5MB/s, on my new reader it ran at about 28MB/s.

Roger, I am using this Delkin - http://www.delkin.com/products/adapters/expresscard54/ I like it for the laptop, it's pretty fast. The only rub for me is that you need to remove the reader from the slot and insert the CF card to make sure that it seats right. A couple times I tried inserting the card while the reader was in slot and it popped out revelling that the pins were not in the card So, I always remove the reader from the slot, insert the card into the reader securely, then pop it back in the slot at which time Downloader Pro opens.
