Nicely captured Eduardo! Welcome! I wish that the bird was flying into the frame (more room on the left than on the right). Maybe you don't see a thumbnail if you aren't a member?
Hi Eduardo, big welcome to BPN!
We just upgraded software for the Forums and the images linked are not showing thumbnails yet, they are working on it. I apologize for that.
Going to the image, Dan is correct, the desirable composition here would be to have the negative space (black) in front of the bird, not behind. Well exposed and sharp and good use of flash.
It would be also good if you included the technical data, so we can advise fully knowing what you did.
Thanks for sharing!
Very nice exposure and detail shows well here. Negative space in front would be a plus but... it your ethics allows just put it there in post processing.
Thank you all for the answers. In fact I agree with the compositional comments. The point is: how to do it in total dark with a flying bird? My technique is to use a wide angle lenses and shoot closer to the bird as I can to the bird and with a small aperture to get everything sharp. It seems I shoot to late, a little sooner and the composition was fine...
Could it be done in a different manner? How do you shoot flying birds at night?
Hi Eduardo. You seem to have a good technique and you have captured the owl very nicely. In my opinion (IMO) even though the original capture composition is not what we would want, the image is really nice of the owl and worthy of post processing manipulation, if your ethics will allow. In my repost, I added canvas on the left and cut from the right, dragging the selection over to the left, dropping, recropping and now the owl is flying into the frame.
Yes I thought of that possibility. Here in Europe this is not very well seen. I see that in USA, at least, this is a common thing (and right thing). Is it? What about the editors from the magazines: do they accept this kind of manipulation?
I would definitely disclose the post processing work, be up front with what's been done and see what happens. You wouldn't be able to enter this version in very many contests I'm sure, depending on the rules. For me, the bottom line is that this is ART!
