    Default Hairy vs Downy comparison

    Attached Images Attached Images

    D90; 80-400 VR @ 370mm. ISO 1250. f/7.1, 1/250s. 0EV. Tripod.

Taken yesterday morning near my suet feeder - two shots 4 minutes apart, both from the same location (birds on slightly different vertical spots on the tree). Cropped both identically for purposes of size comparison -- cropped to vert, shown 85% of full height. Downy is a juvenile, but virtually adult-sized by now. I know Downy's HA is not ideal, and both seem to lack critical sharpness (needed more SS or time to buy a better tripod?); but I thought the comparison was interesting. Have not seen Hairys on my tree before this week. Now if I could just get a Pileated....C&C appreciated.

Hi Bill - nice bird - 1st one for me like the HA better - more eye contact with the viewer.
BG looks good as does the exposure and like the High ISO on the D90 - Not too shabby.
    Good one!!

Agree with aforementioned HA, the sharpness looks fine to me and the BG is very nice. The whites on both birds looks too gray on my monitor but otherwise all looks very good, especially the Hairy.

    Well done,

    Joel
