Thanks for all the effort with the revamp guys! Looking good...

So time I make my first post on the new look.

Shooting from a small boat in late light, I was happy to create this image of a Pied Kingfisher hovering before diving after a fish.

    Techs:
    Canon 7D with 100-400mm L IS USM @ 190mm
    f5.0 @ 1/2500 SS @ ISO-1250
    Exp +0.3

Classic hovering pose Mork, and I like the angle of capture too. In this position, a full wingspread shows off everything, and just love the inclusion of the clouds. Well done for getting the droplet, but I would maybe sharpen it a tad more to enhance it further.

Great critique from Stu, I fully agree. Light is beautiful, I may lighten the eye a bit.

    Hi Morkel,

Stuart has covered it perfectly. It is not easy from a boat !

    Well done.

Morkel, if you were at 190mm, is this a crop. And did you get a chance to zoom in at all for some closer frames??
    cheers

Grant, it's quite a crop, probably 50% or so...I didn't zoom in while the bird was hovering as I wanted to be ready for the dive and focus on that, so I kept it a bit wider here...

Pity the large crop but otherwise a very nice hovering pose captured.
