Hi Ian...nice image with good sharp eye. If this were mine i would crop a bunch off the bottom and just a bit off the RHS You might also try bringing out more detail with S/H in PS.

Thanks, Bob. I wrestled with where to crop and appreciate your suggestions. Would you take off that whole vertical piece of wood?

Hi Ian. Looking at this from an iPad but sure looks good. Like the composition and framing, taking the little from right will strengthen image. Might have gone a little lower to have more green behind the head.

Love the pose and overall feel !!

For my two cents, I would crop a little off the bottom, but not the whole vertical piece of wood.
Two things instead: 1) Put the bottom part of the log in shadow, and 2) define the back edge
of the egret that is in shadow. Throw some light there (masked off from the background)
-- and brighten some of the fine feathers. Nice capture!!

Hi Ian - Davids repost improves a good base image - like the pose and nice overall feel.
Agree with AL'S point about a little lower shooting anlge if at all possible.
    Good show :)

Thanks for taking the time to critique this, folks! Little by little I'm catching on, I think :) One thing I have learned is that I need to learn CS5 a lot better than I know it now!

I'm interested by the reaction. I actually preferred this one (which is why I posted it first), but I think you folks have convinced me that the 2nd is the stronger image. I think it was the bird's pose in this one that I found very attractive.
