    Default Project July: Interaction

    Attached Images Attached Images

Loon feeding a chick. Taken at Lac Le Jeune, B.C. Canada
    Nikon D300s
    500 F4 @ F4
    ISO 400
    1/250
    Tripod from boat.

The boat was actually a floating dock they had attached a plate with a 4 hp motor and an electric motor at the other end. It actually worked well as it had seats but enough room for us to either lie prone or sit on the dock itself giving us lower viewpoints than a real boat would.

Super image fantastic detail and exposure.
My only suggestion would be to clone or blend the circular highlight above the adult's bill - there has possibly been some fixing going on there I sense a rather straight diagonal line nearby - possibly have a go at that too??:)

I like the soft light, feeding behavior and sharpness. I might crop a bit off the bottom.

Cool interaction and great subject isolation at f4.

Definitely needs a bit of CW rotation.

Nice moment captured here and the detail is outstanding. Agree with some CW rotation.

Another vote for the rotation. Great interaction and EXP control, crops suggestions make sense. Thanks for participating in the project.

Can't get enough of these loon shots! Very nicely done with great interaction, gleaming water droplets and smooth BG. I would crop a bit off the bottom.

Congrats on capturing the exact moment of prey hand-off, and sharp on both birds too. This chick looks to be about three weeks old, comparing to similar ones on our lake here (Damariscotta Lake, Maine). Nice eye contact. I agree with comments above re CW rotation and a little crop off bottom. TFS!

Thanks Jonathan, I actually only did a little cloning under her beak, I missed that highlight.:)

Jim, thanks for the comments and will look at the rotation, but will it then make the chick seem like it's swimming uphill?

Thanks Fabs, may I post more interaction shots or is one my limit.

Keith, I am unsure of the age of the chicks. The prey mainly consisted of dragonfly, caddis, mayfly and chironomid larvae. I also saw leeches being fed and one small trout almost as long as the chick, I never thought it would be able to eat it.
