Very cute!!! Love the close up with all those feather details, the background is very nice too. The tiny dirt on the beak tells a story.

Nice close-up Don. I like the slightly angled head and clean BG but the eyes make it for me.

Not a criticism but I must say I have never seen a bird shot taken at f22 before - just emphasises the narrow DOF with big tele's though.

Hi Roy, i crawled up on my belly, and out pop'd the owl... i was so close, i was afraid of not having enough DOF.. i actually laid there and pt on a 36 Ext. tube. I was shocked he stayed there!

I take my hat off to anyone who crawls around on their belly for shots Don - if I done it at my age it would take me forever to get up again :) LOL.

Hi Don - have done well with the slow shutter speed!! Thats getting down there - dont know that I would attempt 1/2oth would have increased the ISO.
Love the eyes and the quizzical look. Exposure looks good and DOF is fine

This is great, it is nice that he posed and waited while you added the ext. tube. Well done.

Thks ,Sometimes nature waits on ya, very rarely though; it was a tough situation, the clouds and rain were coming in, and it hasn't stopped all rain...Thks for your feedback!

Don -I really like this. Good BG and detail and the head tilt really does it for me.

Hi Don Some wild tech settings there .. love it !!

btw for this you can try a sweet technique late in the day !! Can use a 2X extender and might not need extension tubes .. stop down all the way to f 64 and set the shutter speed so there is some ambient light for the bg, usually will be around 1/10 or less .. exp should be set on manual. Then use the flash as main light and won't need a BB. The flash will light up the bird and make him sharp while the slow shutter speed will light up the bg but have no effect on the bird since it will be way underexposed !! Will get a tremendous dof out of it and one cool image !! ... just something to experiment !!

btw love that pose ... well done !!!

Hi Don, Love the image with the cocked head and even light. F22 was indeed overkill seeing the uncluttered backround. F11 would have probably done the trick and increased your SS to a more manageable level.
