    Default colt & dam

Colt playing around with mom, half way trying to nurse.

It's a weird image - can't see the subject eye and at first it's hard to see what is happening. On the other hand, it shows the initimacy and bond of the mare and her foal and it shows nursing behavior, albeit with the comedy of a colt who is goofing off like a kid 'playing in mom's skirt'.

C&C welcome, and I'm interested to know if the image 'works' or not.

Personally, I think it needs a wider crop, if you can. Not seeing the eyes doesn't hurt it too much, but not having any frame of reference on the dam isn't doing it for me.

I can't decide to be honest Meesh. I am pondering over if I could see an eye or even a closed eye would it give the image a little more emotion. Appreciate you posting this though as it gives us something beyond the techs, light etc to think about.

My gut reaction is that it doesn't work. The fur, colors and textures are inviting, but there's not much story telling about the relationship between the colt and its mother. If it were clear that it were about to feed and we could see its eyes, then maybe, but right now it just a colt awkwardly standing under its mother with the shadows blocking almost all of its face.

Thanks for the replies! It seems to be rating a solid "not quite there". :)

Hi meesh - agree with the above comments the lack of a visible eye doesn't give the viewers eye anywhere to make a connection with - not saying a image cannot work without a visible eye just in this case it doesn't - JUST IMHO.
Colours look good as do the details.
    Keep em coming.

Hi, agree with others regarding the colts eye. Due to the image's composition.IMO I don't feel it's projecting enough of the story that you stated. The techs are fine...
