    Default High Key Rock Pigeon

    1D M2n, 600 + 1.4xTC.. 1/320, F 8.0, ISO 400.. Full frame

When the light went bad, while shooting Long-tailed Ducks, I decided to try something different with a common species...

A dark bird, in cloudy conditions, on snow, is an easy way to make a high key image. I set my exposure so the snow is completley over exposed (a quick check of the histogram shows all the flashing white). When I get home, the dark pigeon is slightly over-exposed, but very easy to darken in photoshop - giving the above image!

As a side note, I did not sharpen the outer edge of the bird at all - but it still looks somewhat oversharpened?

    All the best!

Interesting concept. You got some electric colors in the bird for sure. I like the pose and the blown out BG.

I kinda see a bit of a halo in front of the bird. I guess that is where you are talking about it looking over sharpened.

Could it be a result of the darkening of the bird? If you were even one pixel off in your selection that could be the culprit.

You could blow up the JPG real big and use one many tools to remove the halo. I'd probably use a combination of smudge, blur and burn if I couldn't eliminate the line in regular processing.

I like the pose and am wondering if the composition were stronger as a vertical crop.
