    Default Better Beamer

Just got a Better Beamer flash extender a couple days ago and was out using it today but realized that I can only go up to 1/250 second which obviously is not enough to stop movement of a flying bird. Can anyone tell me the name of the adapter you can put on your camera hot shoe and then put the flash on that so I can get faster SS? I also know I would have to get the cable to go with it. I am using a Nikon D300s and SB600 flash.

    Thanks in advance -Cory Bucher

you need to enable the FP, have a look here http://www.rpphoto.com/howto/view.asp?articleID=1026

I dont know the Nikon systems so I found this on a google search, on Canon you have to enable the high speed sync, it seems Nikon is FP so that should fix the issue.

Agree with Jamie you need to find the equivalent for HSS in Nikon. Maybe some Nikonians will chime in. BTW, HSS is only effective til about 1/1000s. After that the flash has no effect.

    Hi Cory,
Assuming that you have Auto FP High Speed Sync enabled then you probably want to get an SC29 cable. it is a three foot coiled cable that lets you use the flash as if it were on your camera.

For the Auto FP Highspeed Sync, Joe McNally explains it well here http://www.joemcnally.com/blog/2009/...eed-portraits/
    I hope that helps

Hi Cory - if you are using your flash on camera - you do not need a adapter - Just need to set HSS mode in the camera -will allow faster shutter speeds than 1/250th.

Trade off is - for every stop of shutter speed (over 1/250th) you loose a stop of flash output! So as that SS gets up there (over 1000th) the effect is greatly reduced, can still get some effect just depends on your distance to subject.
Arties book explains the use of flash very well - dont forget unless you are using flash as main light - your ambient exposure should be correct even if the flash does not fire!!

    Hello
    only a question.
    I normal use Better beamer in TTL with - 1 1/2 or -1 2/3
but could better in some situation (foe example when the BK is a wall white) use in Manual and -1/2 also to have more shoots?
    Thanks
