Following the suggestion by Grace to set up with a pretty (pleasing) bg, something I normally like to do. Hate to get a killer pose then have to clean up, always end up throwing away. This was away form the colony with few birds coming by ... they were all over the mud areas :)

btw one thing you can do with an not-attractive bg is going for blurs ... will take care of bg !!

    Comments welcome and much appreciated

Al - Grace's suggestion is a great one and you've done it well here but I really didn't need another thing to have to think about when looking through the camera ;). Nice light, wing position and the trail of water really adds to the image.

Hi Rachel First thing to look for is a bg even before you look through the viewfinder :) ... check sun angle and wind direction for flight !!!

Nice shot, Al. There should be a skimming theme going on now. LOL

Seems to have been a good year, last year our local skimmers took a beating !! During a high tide and strong west wind the water ran over the colony and wiped out all the youngsters :( They do nest in dangerous places !!! .. making up for it this year !!! :)

I saw one this past Sunday picked up by the gull, trying to chase it but no luck. Sad.

great action shot Very good detail As usual good exposure I wish for slightly tighter crop to bring the bird closer.

Very nice AL - has the all important catch light in the eye.
Like the pose and the trailing water trail.
