A male Great Bustard about to start his display in early April. Adult males display to each other to establish a hierarchy before they start pursuing the females. Possibly the world's heaviest flying bird, males can weight 18 kg.
Shot in the plains of Extremadura, Spain, as part of a conservation project that will commercialize photo hides in a private ranch where this and other steppe birds can be photographed. You can read about the project at http://www.emberiza.org/eng/avutarda1.html
Very impressive image, in the same line of your recent IOW. I dream of going get those one day.
Excellent pose in soft light and the flowers in the foreground add a lot to the feeling. I think they are doing a great job with that project, win, win situation. Enrorabuena, congrats!
This image is absolutely stunning Ignacio. You have the depth of field to cover the whole, beautiful bird, a great background and lovely foreground with the purple flowers. The light is just perfect too, as is the detail in the whites. Congratulations!
I like the composition of your image. The birds pose and placement in the frame are pleasing. I also find the depth of field very effective as the grasses and purple flowers retain enough detail to provide a sense of habitat without being distracting. The blurred background displays the bird. A most enjoyable image. Thanks for sharing.
Very lovely as noted above despite a less than ideal light angle. You chose an elegant subject.

Very cool pose with a nice head turn Ignacio. Sidelight works very well here and the textures of light and feathers in the secondaries are just killer. This year I couldn´t get a single image of bustards because they decided not get close to the hide :( so I had to spend the 14 ours in the hide writing an article in my my laptop and observing how my friend was having a lot of success in the neigbouring hide :D
beautiful Ignacio,good pose,good detail.like the BG,and FG,as you will probly know,these birds have been
re introduced hrer in the UK,on Salsbury plain.thanks.
